Eight Bumble prompts, before and after.

Eight Bumble prompts, each answered twice: the answer most people write, and a rewrite built from the same person's facts. The three people below are invented; their jobs, cities, dogs and sourdough starters exist only on this page. A real profile is written only from your own twelve answers.

The four invisible words

Travel, food, laughing, no games. Almost every profile says them, so they are true and invisible at once. The rule behind all eight rewrites below: swap each general word for the specific version only you could write, and give the reader one easy thing to reply to.

Prompt names: the first four are the ones Bumble's own guide to prompts uses as examples (bumble.com, The Buzz, read 17 October 2026); the other four are from published lists of the app's prompts read the same day. Bumble changes its prompt list, so check the wording in your app before you paste.

The three people

1. Perfect first date

Dev · sample

Before · what most people write

“Drinks and good conversation, see where the night takes us.”

After · same person, same facts

“You pick the restaurant, I pick one thing on the menu we both have to try. Loser of the five-a-side pays. I lose a lot.”

119 characters

Why it works. Bumble’s own guide names “whatever you want” as the answer to avoid on this prompt. Dev’s rewrite is a plan with a rule in it, and the rule is the reply hook.

2. A non-negotiable

Maya · sample

Before · what most people write

“Honesty and no drama.”

After · same person, same facts

“You have to be a graceful loser. I run a pub quiz; I have watched grown men argue with a laminated answer sheet.”

112 characters

Why it works. Bumble’s own guide names “no drama” and “honesty” as the answers to avoid here. Maya’s version is a real condition with a scene behind it, and it is funny because it is specific, not because it tries to be.

3. I’m hoping you…

Jo · sample

Before · what most people write

“Are kind, genuine and know how to have fun.”

After · same person, same facts

“Don’t mind a dog on the back seat and a van that is 80% finished. The other 20% is the bed, which I admit is the important part.”

128 characters

Why it works. Three adjectives became two facts about Jo’s actual life and one admission. The reader knows exactly what a weekend with Jo involves.

4. If I could travel to any time in the past

Dev · sample

Before · what most people write

“The 90s, best music ever.”

After · same person, same facts

“Toronto, 1989, the day my parents opened their first restaurant. I would like to taste the original dal before 30 years of “improvements”.”

138 characters

Why it works. Bumble’s guide says to add the where and the why; a year alone is the answer to avoid. Dev’s answer is a place, a date and a family story in 140 characters.

5. We’ll get along if

Maya · sample

Before · what most people write

“You can make me laugh and don’t take life too seriously.”

After · same person, same facts

“You know the capital of Burkina Faso, or are willing to learn it by Sunday at 7 for team “Quizteama Aguilera”.”

110 characters

Why it works. A test the reader can pass right now, a time and a place, and a team name that tells you everything about Maya’s sense of humour.

6. I will never shut up about

Jo · sample

Before · what most people write

“Travel, my dog, good coffee.”

After · same person, same facts

“Why every front garden in Melbourne should have at least one plant you can eat. Also my greyhound, who has never once chased anything.”

134 characters

Why it works. “My dog” is on half the profiles on the app; a greyhound who will not chase is a story. The first sentence is an opinion a reader can agree or argue with.

7. My simple pleasures

Dev · sample

Before · what most people write

“Good food, good company, lazy Sundays.”

After · same person, same facts

“The sound of the market opening at eight. Keith the sourdough rising on a cold day. Being the second person to taste a new dish, after the dishwasher.”

150 characters

Why it works. Three real scenes from a cook’s week in place of three nouns from everybody’s. The dishwasher detail is the one people reply to.

8. Two truths and a lie

Maya · sample

Before · what most people write

“I’ve been to 15 countries, I hate chocolate, I once met Ed Sheeran.”

After · same person, same facts

“I have never parallel parked. I have been beaten at my own quiz by a table of twelve-year-olds. I have 31 children’s names memorised by day two.”

144 characters

Why it works. The lie should be the least believable true-sounding thing. Every one of Maya’s three is guessable from the rest of her profile, which is the whole game.

Questions

What are the best Bumble prompts to answer?

The ones that ask for a picture rather than an adjective: a first date, a non-negotiable with a scene behind it, a time in the past with a where and a why, two truths and a lie. Skip any prompt you can only answer with a list of nouns; “travel, food, laughing” is the same on every profile.

How long should a Bumble prompt answer be?

One or two sentences with one concrete thing in them: a place, a food, a habit, a name. The app shows a character counter as you type; stay inside it and leave room for the sentence that gives the reader something to reply to. Every rewrite on this page is two sentences or fewer.

Why do Bumble's own tips say to avoid “no drama” and “honesty”?

Because they are true of everyone and so tell the reader nothing, and because they read as negative. Bumble's guide suggests the specific, positive version instead: what you actually want, in a scene. That is the same rule as every rewrite here.

Should my Bumble prompts be funny?

Only in your own voice. A joke you would not say out loud reads as borrowed. Specific beats funny: a true, odd detail (a sourdough starter called Keith) gets more replies than a line that tries to be clever.

Are Bumble prompts the same as Hinge prompts?

Some overlap (two truths and a lie, simple pleasures, we'll get along if); the wording differs and each app has its own list that changes over time. The method is identical on both: swap each general word for the specific version only you could write, and give the reader one easy thing to reply to. Nine Hinge prompts, before and after; eight Tinder prompts.

Can someone write my Bumble profile for me?

Yes. We write the bio, three prompt answers with two spares each and an opener from your twelve answers, in one day, for $49. We never log in to your account or message anyone for you; you paste the words in yourself.

Samples only. Maya, Dev and Jo are invented for this page; no real person's profile appears here. Prompt names are Bumble's as published. Nobody can promise matches. For adults 18+. Not dating advice or therapy. Not affiliated with Hinge, Bumble, Tinder or any app.
